ST MARY CATHEDRAL SCHOOL DISTINGUISHED GRADUATE RECIPIENT FOR 2018-2019
Thomas M. Meyer
The St. Mary's School board is pleased to announce that Thomas M. Meyer is the recipient of the 2019 NCEA Distinguished Graduate Award. Tom is a 1963 graduate of St. Mary Cathedral School and a 1967 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He attended the University of Alaska and Southeast Missouri State University, where he graduated from in 1975 with a BS in Business. He soon became a a licensed Real Estate Broker where he has spent his career. He is now the President and Owner of the Thomas L. Meyer Relaty Co. Inc.
Tom is the son of Thomas L. and Helen Giroir Meyer, who also graduated from St. Mary Cathedral School. He married Mary Ellyne Griffith Meyer in 1972. He and Mary have five children who all attended and graduate from St. Mary Cathedral School and Notre Dame High School. His children are Dr. Heather Ellyne Meyer, Jean Marie Boctor, Thomas Nathaniel Meyer, Dr. Catherine Friffith Meyer, and Tara Giroir Meyer. They have three grandchildren, Rami, Hattie, and RJ. They are all very proud of the work their father and grandfather has done in our community.
Tom's career in Real Estate has been very helpful for the community and successful on many levels. He is a member of the Missouri Association of Realtors and was President in 1995. He was also the Vice President of the National Realtor Regional department in 2001. In addition to his time in real estate Tom served in the Vietnam War as a US Navy Seabee. He is now a member of the VFW 3838, American Legion Post #63, and the Missouri Veterans Home Foundation. However, Tom's service doesn't stop there. He has been very active in his community. He spent time on the Southeast Missouri State Board of Regents from 2011-2018. He was a President's Council member and Foundation member at Southeast Missouri State University. He has been Preisdent for Habitat for Humanity in Cape Girardeau. He was Chairman of the Cape Chamber of Commerce in 2013. He was President of the St. Francis Medical Center Friends of St. Francis. And he is a member for the EMAA Facility Board since 1999. He is most proud of his work with the parish and school of St. Mary Cathedral. He was a chairman in the past for the DDF Campaign, on the school long range planning committees, and a member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council.
We are extremely proud to recognize Thomas M. Meyer as our Distinguished Graduate for 2019. The Award will be presented at an all-school assembly on Monday, January 28, at 8:00 a.m. in the gym as part of our Catholic Schools Week celebration. Friends, relatives, and classmates are invited to join us for the assembly and for a reception in the gym following the presentation.
